Project Overview & Scope Of Work:
The high-pressure valves at the Hassayan Clean Coal Power Plant were produced by HP Valves in the Netherlands. The entire scope of repair and modification for all HP Parallel Slide Gate Valves at Hassayan, under the supervision of GE, was executed by the engineering team at Phoenix Global Valves Manufacturing LLC. The scope of work included dismantling, repairing, and modifying the valves to ensure their trouble-free and smooth operation at the unit.

The gas line, valve, and actuator were inspected. The actuator was found to be opening the valve to only 25% of its capacity. Both the valve and actuator were thoroughly cleaned. The main gas line was then shut off, and the actuator was opened and closed 3-4 times. This process was repeated with the gas line operational. Surrounding valves were also checked. Post-service, the valve actuator functioned correctly. The root cause was identified as inadequate maintenance of the gas line, valve, and actuator.

The manufacturer has incorrectly machined the inlet and outlet, resulting in the hole being on the wrong side of the valve. The internals should be rotated on the upstream side of the valve, as there is a hole in the disc designed to equalize pressure between the bonnet area and the inlet side of the valve.

Upon inspection, the cause of the leakage was identified, and a solution for rectifying the 18-foot Gate Valve at the Hassayan Power Plant was proposed. This includes lapping the discs and correcting the threading of the stem on-site.

Upon inspection, it was observed that the stem was rusted and the threading had worn off. The stoppers were also rusted and significantly damaged. Consequently, we propose to lubricate and replace the stem valve, and to readjust the stoppers.
